Photog of the Month ~ Tepi Neejärvi

I met Tepi within a few Facebook photography groups last year. Her photographs explore the Finnish landscape and last winter, I was mesmerized by her snow shots. She had a wonderful series of photos which depicted a koala bear in all sorts of fun situations within the snowy landscape, that caught my eye and haven't stopped thinking about (see below). New York City had basically a snowless winter and when it comes down to it - I love snow and missed it way too much. Tepi's photographs filled that void for me!

In Tepi's words - "I've always loved to take pictures, but when I had my two kids (almost adults now), I took more, of course. I don't know how it all began, maybe after film cameras, digital shooting became more fun. The results were seen right away. Since then, I just can't stop shooting. My inspirations are mainly nature itself, with all the changes of each season."

Tepi's photographs are subtle, beautiful, emotive photographs which I never seem to get enough of.

It's time for a website Tepi !!!

Here is just a taste of Tepi's work - enjoy ...

Day 138 ~ Photog of the Month ~ Pamela Maret

I met Pam virtually through one of my favorite groups on Facebook - Show Me Your NYC. Her images have always reminded me of what I love about NYC. They have a NYC 70's vibe to them, which I love!

Then I met her for real on a photo walk on the High Line and her smile was awfully contagious! She told me that when her youngest daughter left for college in 2010, she sold her empty nest and everything in it . She moved from the suburbs of Charlotte, North Carolina to New York City.

"I didn't know anyone here, had never ridden a subway or a city bus, and hadn't even visited the city in over 20 years. I showed up with my clothes and my shoes and figured it out. It has been a fascinating experience for me, and photography has proven to be an excellent way to share my fascination and love of this amazing city and the diverse people living here."

And, in honor of buying my first iphone, I wanted to feature a photographer who uses her iphone to create such beautiful, emotive photographs with her iphone. I can only aspire to create images half as good with mine. Pam says, "It's way easier to grab people shots with, rather than my big ol canon!"

enjoy...

Day 85 ~ Photog of the Month ~ Jo Ann Craig

I met Jo Ann through a Facebook photography group. This past May, her status update announced that she had an extra ticket to the ICP's Weegee: Murder Is My Business Opening .

I quickly responded, YES! We met, quickly bonded and have been friends ever since.

I am absolutely wowed by Jo Ann's photography!

Jo Ann can really do it all - street photography, macro, portraits, landscapes, nature etc. In Jo Ann's words. "I love photography. Photographing the beauty around me everyday whether a flower, street scene in NYC or a face in the crowd, brings me joy. I love the feel of a camera in my hand, the sound the shutter makes, the technology of lenses and my Nikon and Canon."

Jo Ann's work is a huge inspiration!  Here are some of my favorites!

Day 37 ~ Photog of the Month ~ Jana Lily Kleisnerova

Jana is one of many incredible photographers I met on Facebook this past year. Jana's photographs evoke so many feelings for me - the quiet beauty of the forest, a secret revealed in a doorway, a moment of tenderness caught in an instant.

Jana is from the Czech Republic and now lives in Germany. Her father taught her, at an early age, all about photography, what Jana calls "classical photography". As a child, she remembers working in the darkroom with her father in her home's bathroom, recalling the clothespins used to hang the photographs to dry.

Jana says that shooting is her therapy. I understand that completely.
When asked to describe her photography in one word.

She answered ~ whisper ....

See the world through Jana's eyes.
