Day 59 ~ Street Artists Unite at Dorian Grey Gallery ~ Hop of the Week

Checked out Street Artists Unite at Dorian Grey Gallery last night. What a blast! A packed gallery with some real fun, ultra cool people.  The show consists of a novel collaboration of photography by Hank O'Neal (aka X-CIA) and a collection of current NYC street artists that "bombed" Hank's photographs. Excited, I met some of the street artists that inspire so many of my photographs!

If you have done any walking through NYC streets, you will recognize the street artists (Army of One, AVONE, COPE2, CRASH, ENX, Fumero, Kid Lew, Love Child, Nobody, Screwtape, SEE ONE, and BTA) that highlight this show - check it out!

Exhibition Dates: June 27th- Aug 5th 2012

Day 45 ~ Central Park Reflection

Central Park, NYC

Day 44 ~ Sunday Hop of the Week ~ MoMA

My Sunday hop actually took place yesterday with my friend Lisa. As true New Yorkers do, Lisa usually catches the last day of an exhibit. Cindy Sherman at the MoMA's last day was yesterday. As I revisited the show yesterday with Lisa, we talked about how amazing the retrospective was even though Cindy was not a favorite of ours during the 80's.

We also popped through "The Shaping of New Visions: Photography, Film, Photobook". Good stuff! On view till April 20, 2013.

Day 38 ~ Sunday Hop of the Week ~ jimjoe at The Hole

If you live in the city and frequent the Lower East Side, you have seen the ubiquitous jimjoe tag. Often humorous, it is always fun to find jimjoe throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. Aimee, a true jimjoe treasure seeker, invited me to the jimjoe opening at The Hole Gallery. The exhibition presented by the New York Art Department runs “for one evening and two days only during irregular gallery hours.” The press release for the exhibition states, “The culmination of five years of experience of writing on trash and other people’s property, the show consists of paintings, drawings and trash sculptures made over the course of three weeks and represents an attempt by the artist to transition ideas, emotions and intentions used in the street to a fine art gallery setting.” The vast space and a couple of celebrity sightings created a perfect setting for jimjoe's art!

Day 37 ~ Photog of the Month ~ Jana Lily Kleisnerova

Jana is one of many incredible photographers I met on Facebook this past year. Jana's photographs evoke so many feelings for me - the quiet beauty of the forest, a secret revealed in a doorway, a moment of tenderness caught in an instant.

Jana is from the Czech Republic and now lives in Germany. Her father taught her, at an early age, all about photography, what Jana calls "classical photography". As a child, she remembers working in the darkroom with her father in her home's bathroom, recalling the clothespins used to hang the photographs to dry.

Jana says that shooting is her therapy. I understand that completely.
When asked to describe her photography in one word.

She answered ~ whisper ....

See the world through Jana's eyes.
